Mike Piehler
Professor; Director, UNC Institute for the Environment
Dr. Piehler is a coastal ecosystem ecologist. His research focuses on transport and processing of nutrient and carbon, particularly the role played by microbial communities at the coastal land-water interface. The Piehler Lab’s work spans a broad range of both microbial systems and coastal habitats. Dr. Piehler is particularly interested in how human activity affects the interactions between pollutants and native microbial communities in our coastal systems, and the challenges and opportunities that those interactions present.
